Our Team

Mr. Popil is a Managing Partner and the Chief Executive Officer of Lex Capital. Dean holds a B. Admin (Distinction) from the University of Regina, the Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation, the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a recipient of the Governor General's Medal of Canada. Mr. Popil has been actively involved in managing numerous private equity and venture capital funds over the last 25 years. Mr. Popil is responsible for managing all the due diligence and underwriting of investment opportunities as well as he is actively involved in sourcing new deals, negotiating and structuring terms, and raising capital. Mr. Popil currently sits on the Boards of Artis Exploration Ltd., Karve Energy Inc., and Durham Creek Energy Ltd., and is a Member of Leaders Council at the Hill & Levene Schools of Business, University of Regina.

Mr. Armstrong is a Managing Partner and the Chief Financial Officer of Lex Capital. Mr. Armstrong obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Finance (Distinction) from Minot State University. Mr. Armstrong holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has over 24 years of private equity and corporate finance experience. Mr. Armstrong is responsible for financial, accounting, and compliance activities as well as assisting with due diligence and underwriting of investments. Mr. Armstrong currently sits on the Board of Archer Exploration Corp.

Mr. Thompson is a Partner and VP, Investments at Lex Capital, where he is responsible for the due diligence, underwriting, and monitoring of investments. Mr. Thompson has over 20 years of experience in capital markets and the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining Lex Capital, Mr. Thompson was a Senior Analyst at the Ross Smith Energy Group (“Ross Smith”) in Calgary, a former boutique, independent oil and gas research firm. At Ross Smith, Mr. Thompson was primarily responsible for conducting research on various oil and gas plays and companies across western Canada and the U.S. Mr. Thompson obtained a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Business Valuator (CBV), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA, North Dakota) designations.

Mr. Mueller is a Senior Investment Manager at Lex Capital, where he is responsible for assisting in the due diligence, underwriting and monitoring of investments. Mr. Mueller obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Finance from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Mr. Korte is the Controller for Lex Capital and the various funds under management. Mr. Korte has 20 years of accounting experience. Prior to joining Lex Capital, Mr. Korte spent three years as the Controller for a group of companies involved in food manufacturing, farming, and animal feed production. Before this, Mr. Korte spent nine years in the oil and gas sector. This experience included four years as the CFO of a small junior oil company and five years as the Controller for the crude oil business of a large Saskatchewan-based company. Mr. Korte obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
